Alcor Mizar Double

Alcor Mizar Double

When looking at the Big Dipper, the second star in from the end of the handle appears to have a dim star very close to it. In ancient times, the Romans would test a night watchman's night vision by seeing if he could see this dim star.

When you look at this pair of stars through a telescope, you'll see that the brighter of the two, Mizar (Left) is actually a double star on its own.
